Sweet Potato Vine (Ipomea)

Botanical names - Ipomoea batatas.
Features - An interesting, unusual choice for a hanging basket or climbing vine. Bright green foliage.
Height - Trailing vine up to 24" (61 cm) in length.
Soil and water - Grows best in well drained, moderately moist soil. Average water needs.
Light requirements - Plant in part to full sun.
Best use - Excellent for hanging baskets and container gardens where a trailing effect is desired. Twining growth.
Growing tips - Add a slow release fertilizer like Osmocote into soil prior to planting. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer like 20-20-20 on a weekly basis if no slow release is used. Treat as an annual in cooler climates. Prune to shape if needed. Not frost tolerant.
Trailing vines facts
Vines with rootlets should not be allowed to grow on wood houses or wooden parts of brick houses.
Most vines grow towards light by elongating their stems and attaching to any support available.
Vines with rootlets growing on tree trunks are not harmful unless they cover the tree's foliage.
