Toronto, Canada - June, 2005 – Summer is coming to an end and you may think that there is the same old choice of plants and flowers at the garden center with limited color for fall. “Not so,” said Jeff Howe, president of Fernlea Flowers Ltd., one of North America's largest nurseries. “We're third generation growers and distributors,” said Howe, ”who travel to Europe each year to bring back new and numerous colorful varieties of plants and flowers for fall and winter markets. Europeans know the joy of winter gardening and we want North Americans to 'dig in' all year around, and create the incredible color accents in their containers or garden for what can be some dreary months ahead.”
What's new? “The trend is to container garden,” said Howe, “so we have added new items in our Winter Garden Collection™. We have a series of container choices, ready to go, to provide a focal point for apartment or home dwellers. Also, we have added new bold colors and color mixes to our ever popular Icicle® Pansies line.”
Winter Garden Collection™

In Fall 2005, Fernlea Flowers is introducing some attractive containers, which contain conifers (both Thuja and Chamaecyparis), an attractive array of heathers (calluna vulgaris) with over 16 color choices ranging from soft pink to lilac to ruby red, Winterberry (Gaulthera Procumbens), and more. On Fernlea's website are pictures, planting and care instructions for all the collection.
Icicle Pansies®
These pansies, which have captured the hearts of gardeners with such an array of colors and colorful mixes, are planted in September and are guaranteed to perform throughout the harshest winter, and then bloom again in early spring. The Fall lineup includes seven mixes and 16 distinct colors, including the new 2005 introductions: Icicle® Ruffle Mix, Icicle® Rosy Red Ruffle, and Icicle® Fire 'n Ice. These pansies are a great replacement or accent to fall mums.
Added Howe, “The Icicle Pansies® offer such bold colors that they are great for holiday theming. It's rewarding to peek under the snow and see some Icicle Clear White and Icicle Clear Rose celebrating for the December holidays!”
